The Indiana Hoosiers have once again been one of the biggest stories in college football under head coach Curt Cignetti.
After finishing the regular season 12-0 heading into last Saturday’s Big Ten Championship Game, the Hoosiers were ranked No. 2 and faced off against the unbeaten No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes.
For the first time since 1988, Indiana defeated Ohio State to win the Big Ten title—a feat they hadn’t accomplished since 1967—and secured the top overall seed in the College Football Playoff.

While Cignetti isn’t the only reason for the team’s success, he has undoubtedly been the driving force. In just his second year with the program, he’s led one of the fastest turnarounds in FBS history.
On Wednesday, Cignetti was officially awarded the Walter Camp National Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season, becoming the first coach in history to win the honor back-to-back.
“The first coach to win the Walter Camp National Coach of the Year in back-to-back seasons,” Indiana posted on X.
Also receiving a prestigious honor on Wednesday was Indiana quarterback and Heisman favorite Fernando Mendoza, who was named the Walter Camp Most Outstanding Player. Mendoza transferred to Bloomington after spending last season at California.
This marks the Hoosiers’ second straight postseason appearance. Last season, they faced the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the first round and came up short. This year, however, they secured a first-round bye and will await their next opponent in the CFP..
