The Northeast Side park is undergoing a renovation totaling close to $650,000. Estimated completion is set for fall 2026.

The project will increase the parking lot capacity on Nacogdoches Road, while widening the base trails to be six-foot-wide concrete paths, according to city documents.

It also includes a paved bicycle trail, a gazebo, a playground and walking trail. Connections to other locations will expand, including a link to the Semmes Branch Library’s parking lot .

Some work on the park began last spring. The city of San Antonio this month awarded the renovation project to Belt Built Contracting LLC.

The park project is only one component of the city’s wider-reaching 2022-27 bond program.

Renovating the park will cost nearly $650,000, while the overall $1.2 billion program includes 183 projects. It was the largest bond program to be passed in the Alamo City’s history, with individual propositions earning a range of 60% to 72% support.

San Antonio undergoes five-year bond cycles, which voters decide on. In 2022, 82 parks and recreation projects were approved, including an $18 million investment for the Civic Park at Hemisfair. Around 76% of the funding from bonds was allocated toward streets, sidewalks, drainage and parks, according to city manager Erik Walsh.
