Windy TuesdayThursday-Friday stormDenver Forecast

Strong winds heighten fire risks along Colorado’s Front Range, prompting a Red Flag Warning. A storm could bring snow later this week.

DENVER — The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team is tracking strong winds along Colorado’s Front Range on Tuesday and the potential for more snow to fall in Colorado later this week.

Windy Tuesday

Sunny skies and breezy conditions remain Tuesday in Denver, with highs near 60 degrees. Winds will be strong through the day Tuesday, particularly over the foothills, Boulder and Denver’s western suburbs.

Warm, dry and windy conditions are the recipe for critical fire danger, leading the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning for high fire danger through 5 p.m. Outdoor burning or any activity could cause a spark should be avoided. If a fire were to spark, it could spread rapidly.

Snow in Colorado’s mountains will taper off Tuesday. Wednesday will be mild and dry in Denver, with upper 50s for high temperatures. Denver’s average high temperature in early January is between 44-45 degrees.

Thursday-Friday storm

The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team said the next storm approaches Colorado on Thursday, dropping temperatures and bringing the chance for some much-needed precipitation.

Highs in the Denver area are expected to be in the low 40s, with the chance for rain and or snow showers across the metro area and Front Range. Depending on the timing, the Front Range could see some snow accumulation through Thursday evening, making for a potentially slick Friday morning commute as lows are set to drop to the low 20s.

Skies look to clear quickly Friday in Denver, but temperatures will be cold behind this system. Highs will be chilly, but gradually above freezing by Friday afternoon, in the mid-30s to low 40s.

Denver Forecast

  • TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. High 59, low 35.
  • WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny and breezy. High 56, low 32.
  • THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy and cooler with a chance for flurries. High 41, low 25.
  • FRIDAY: Chilly and dry. High 36, low 19.
  • SATURDAY: Mostly sunny and mild. High 45, low 27.
  • SUNDAY: Mostly sunny and cool. High 53, low 26.
