PHOENIX — KoMiCo America, the domestic subsidiary of a South Korean-based company, is setting up a semiconductor equipment cleaning and coating facility in Mesa.

On Monday, domestic and global executives gathered with local officials and community leaders for a grand opening ceremony at the 125,000-square-foot facility at 7300 E. Hampton Avenue.

James Jin, CEO of KoMiCo America, said the semiconductor equipment cleaning and coating facility in Mesa is the company’s third location in the U.S.

“KoMiCo’s expansion into Arizona reflects both the growth of our business and our belief in the region’s talent and technology ecosystem,” Jin said in a Monday announcement.

The $60 million facility represents the latest expansion for the state’s booming microchip industry, which is spearheaded by the massive TSMC Arizona operation in north Phoenix.

How will semiconductor equipment cleaning, coating facility impact metro Phoenix?

The new KoMiCo Mesa facility strengthens Arizona’s semiconductor supply chain by providing cleaning and coating services in the Valley, which is home to a growing number of semiconductor suppliers relocating or establishing operations.

For example, Moses Lake Industries, a subsidiary of Japan-based Tama Chemicals, operates a manufacturing facility in Mesa.

Joining this technological network allows KoMiCo to better service its customers, according to Jin.

“It also allows us to be closer to our customers, respond faster to their needs and provide the level of support required in today’s demanding semiconductor manufacturing environment,” Jin said.

The facility will add 50 jobs initially and create a total of 200 new jobs over the next several years, according to the city of Mesa.

“We’re proud to create new jobs, invest in local capabilities and build a foundation that supports U.S. semiconductor manufacturing and our employees for years to come,” Jin said.
