HICKORY, N.C. – Head women’s basketball coach Emry Tsitouris has been named the national NCAA DII Coach of the Week by HoopDirt.com. This marks Tsitouris’ first national coach of the week honor while at Lenoir-Rhyne.
Last week the Bears defeated Newberry 86-51 and Carson-Newman 103-92. Against Newberry, Lenoir-Rhyne allowed just 16 points in the first half and cruised to the 35-point victory. Saturday’s game against Carson-Newman saw Abigail Brown become the first Bear since 2000 to score 40+ points in a game, scoring 42. In addition to that individual accomplishment the Bears hit 17 threes as a team, a new program record.
Coach Tsitouris has the Bears rolling, winning five consecutive games and sitting at a 10-4 (6-2 SAC) record, good enough for a tie for third in the conference standings. They will look to get a statement win against No. 10 Coker tonight before traveling to Tusculum to face the Pioneers on Saturday.
