Vitamin retailer GNC is walking away from its Phoenix distribution center this spring, a move that will wipe out roughly 66 warehouse jobs and shrink the company’s local logistics footprint. As operations wind down at the south Phoenix site, employees and nearby businesses are now bracing for the fallout.
A state WARN filing lists the soon-to-close facility as “GNC Distribution Center” at 1002 S 63rd Ave and shows 66 employees affected by the planned shutdown. The notice was filed with the Arizona Department of Economic Security on Jan. 7, according to AZ Job Connection.
The company says it’s consolidating its distribution
GNC told the Phoenix Business Journal it is reshaping its distribution strategy around a single hub and will permanently cut all positions tied to the Phoenix warehouse. The company said the facility’s operations are slated to wind down in March 2026, according to a statement cited by the Phoenix Business Journal.
Part of a wider logistics wave
The decision lands amid a broader wave of WARN filings and facility closures hitting logistics and manufacturing across the country this winter, a trend highlighted by FreightWaves. Industry watchers point to higher operating costs, lost contracts and excess capacity as drivers pushing companies to consolidate regional distribution and trim their warehouse footprints.
What it means for workers
For the roughly five dozen workers slated to lose their jobs, state and local programs are lining up standard layoff support. Employees affected by the closure can tap rapid-response services, job-search assistance and training through local ARIZONA@WORK career centers and Maricopa County workforce programs. The ARIZONA@WORK Maricopa County site lists locations, workshops and hiring events aimed at helping dislocated workers land new roles, including upcoming job fairs and resume workshops; see ARIZONA@WORK Maricopa County.
