LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, is moving closer to opening a new business school with a massive state investment to support the project.

Gov. Joe Lombardo and the Nevada Legislature allocated more than $68 million toward the construction of the new Lee Business School, which is half the funds the university needs for the project.

The 130 thousand-square-foot building will be located at the intersection of Maryland Parkway and Harmon Avenue, serving more than 4,000 business majors.

“We really need 21st-century space that’s empowered with flexible learning environments that have technology and that are suitable for the kinds of education that business schools need to enter the current workforce,” said Chris Heavey, interim president of UNLV.

The new facility will replace Beam Hall, the current home of the Lee Business School, which was also the site of a deadly shooting two years ago. The existing building will be repurposed.

UNLV graduated a record 7,000 students during the most recent academic year. The university expects 80 percent of those graduates to remain in Southern Nevada.

The new Lee Business School is expected to open in 2029.
