Shapiro ran for touchdowns of 1, 19, and 2 yards, threw a 7-yard TD pass, and returned an onside kick 47 yards for the Dragons’ final touchdown. It stretched their lead from 1 to 8 after the Dragons (2-2) came up with a stop on a 2-point conversion by the Wolfpack (2-1).

Punctuated by his kick return, Shapiro totaled 275 all-purpose yards from scrimmage (116 rushing, 112 passing, 47 returns) in an all-around effort.
“He’s like that every day,” said coach Rocco Zizza. “You want your best players to have the ball in their hands at key times, and that’s what happened.
“I’m surprised they kicked it to him.”
Boston Latin quarterback Augie Groh started the scoring in the first quarter with a 4-yard touchdown run. Then, after Eric Perryman pounced on a fumble recovery in Latin Academy’s end zone for a 14-6 lead, Groh connected with senior Lawrence Decossa on a 60-yard wheel route to extend the Wolfpack’s lead to 21-6.
Shapiro scrambled for a thrilling 19-yard touchdown run at the end of the first half, diving to connect with the pylon. Sa’id Cardoso ran it in on the 2-point conversion to pull Latin Academy within 21-14 at the end of the first period.
Shapiro found junior Adam Goldsmith McGarr for a 7-yard touchdown in the middle of the third, then ran for a 2-yard score at the start of the fourth, passing for 68 yards on the drive.
After Groh led the Wolfpack down the field and punched in a 2-yard score, the Dragons defense stopped senior Noah Dang on the 2-point try.
On the ensuing kickoff, Groh (who also kicks for Latin) drove the ball on a line straight to the hands of Shapiro. Though his initial thought was to go straight down, he saw 50 yards of empty turf in front of him and ran it in for the score.
“That’s something I’ve never done before, but [Zizza] just threw me out there,” Shapiro said. “You’re a football player, no matter what position you are.”
