ROANE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – Every second matter when it comes to first responders locating a person in need.
However, it is not always easy for those first responders to locate the house in need of assistance.
“Most of the time you look for someone outside to flag you down,” Thomas Dillon, the unit director for the Roane County Rescue Squad, said. “This helps a lot, especially if you have an individual or just a couple of folks where someone’s not available. We’ll be outside to wave at you, to let you know.”
Many times, first responders have to deal with heavy rain, darkness and houses that may not have addresses that are easily visible. The new emergency lighting system from Arrive AI is meant to make those houses easier to find when there is an emergency.
“The emergency lighting system is going to enable us to find the individual that called 911 a lot quicker. We will be able to visualize where the address is opposed to just depending on GPS,” David Schroeder, a longtime paramedic and brand ambassador for Arrive AI, said.
First responders believe these units can help them cut down their response time so they can find the exact location much quicker.
“It’s crucial for us to be as responsive as we can, so using that GPS tracking system, having these kinds of illumination systems set up for us, they just improve that response time for us. That is the most important part because we’re responding to somebody’s worst day of their life,” Firefighter Travis Willmott said. “Being able to save even one second, five seconds or a minute is very crucial for us.”
The plan for the Arrive AI emergency lighting system started back in 2014, and in 2018, they began funding the creation of the project. Now, ten years after the initial thought, they plan on rolling these units out later this year beginning with healthcare applications.
