BROWNSVILLE, Texas — America First Refining has signed a multibillion-dollar trade deal to support its Brownsville refinery, the first large greenfield refinery built in the U.S. in nearly 50 years.
Houston-based Element Fuels Holdings LLC first announced the project in June 2024. Element Fuels’ website now redirects to America First Refining’s website, and the two companies are under the same leadership. America First Refining has offices located in Houston and in Dallas.
When the new project was first announced, it was already fully permitted and was expected to produce more than 160,000 barrels per day of finished gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, which could make it the largest new refinery in the U.S. since the 1970s.
The total cost of the project was expected to range between $3 billion and $4 billion, Element Fuels previously told the Houston Business Journal. The first phase is scheduled to be operational in 2027.
