ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The 47th annual Atlanta Jazz Festival closed out Monday with local star André 3000 playing his new jazz album.
“I just know the city is going to turn up as soon as André hits the stage,” said Kimoni Jiggetts, an OutKast fan.
“It’s his hometown. There’s going to be a ton of support. Atlanta loves André, so I expect it to be a huge applause,” said Amari Carpenter, a fellow OutKast fan.
André 3000, half of the hip hop group OutKast, is taking on a totally different genre with his flute.
“I really liked it,” said Jiggetts. “It’s good music to just kind of focus to, and so given this is my first time seeing him live, I’m excited to see him in any capacity.”
The artist debuted his first jazz album, New Blue Sun, late last year, and fans of his previous works made sure to come out and support his new sound.
“Anytime you get a free André 3000 concert, you really just have to take advantage of that,” said Kenny Okafor, a Jazz Festival regular.
André wasn’t the only local artist on stage Monday. Groove Centric played before him.
“It was amazing. It felt so awesome to be in front of this sea of people, and they gave me so much love,” said Mike Jones with Groove Centric.
The Jazz Festival brought out an estimated 150,000 people over the three-day event.
“So much energy out here. Good music, great food, so where I get the chance, I definitely make sure and come out,” said Okafor.
This is the festival’s 47th year.
“Compared to previous years, it’s just as great,” said Okafor.
