A Federal Aviation Administration-imposed bottleneck will delay incoming domestic flights into Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on Sunday evening.
The FAA issued a ground delay program from 3:30 p.m. to 8:59 p.m. on Sunday due to airport congestion brought on by this weekend’s Formula 1 United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas. The program will delay all incoming flights from the contiguous U.S. by an average time of 53 minutes, with a maximum delay of 103 minutes.
The order slows down the rate at which flights depart for a busy airport so that arriving flights are spaced safely and evenly. Flights from across the U.S. will be metered so that the airport only has about 28 arrivals landing per hour.
