Many Texas households face rising energy costs and extreme weather, making conservation and affordability more important than ever. That’s why CPS Energy created the Assistance Finder: a streamlined tool that makes it easier for customers to apply for bill assistance.
In the past, families seeking help had to complete separate applications for each assistance program, often repeating the same information and documentation. Recognizing that this process posed a significant barrier, CPS Energy developed the Assistance Finder. This streamlined solution simplifies the path to receiving the help needed.
Since its launch in July 2024, nearly 29,000 customers have used the tool as of June 30, 2025 — showing just how many are already benefiting from this streamlined approach.
CPS Energy has many assistance programs for different needs, from bill discounts to home weatherization services. By simplifying the path to assistance, CPS Energy is also supporting long-term conservation efforts. Many of the programs included in the tool directly contribute to lower energy usage around the house, making it easier for customers to save money in the long run, as well as help grid resiliency.
The Assistance Finder evaluates applicants for several programs that support different aspects of energy affordability and reliability:
- Affordability Discount Program (ADP): The Affordability Discount Program offers eligible customers a monthly electricity and gas service discount. This program is available to income-qualified households and helps reduce overall costs.
- Residential Energy Assistance Partnership (REAP): REAP offers emergency financial assistance to customers struggling to pay their energy bills. This program, funded by CPS Energy in collaboration with the City of San Antonio and Bexar County, helps prevent disconnections for households experiencing financial hardship.
- Casa Verde: Casa Verde helps customers lower their energy use through free home weatherization services. These energy efficiency upgrades may include insulation, weather stripping, and energy-efficient lighting – all aimed at reducing monthly bills and improving comfort at home.
- Senior Citizen Late Fee Waiver: This program waives late fees for customers who are 60 years of age or older. It offers added flexibility for seniors, especially those living on a fixed income.
- Budget Payment Plan (BPP): The Budget Payment Plan helps customers manage their monthly bills by averaging yearly energy costs. This means fewer surprises and more predictable payments, regardless of seasonal changes in usage.
Whether you’re facing a temporary hardship or planning for long-term energy conservation, CPS Energy is committed to supporting San Antonio households with practical solutions that are simple to access.
