Cam Skattebo’s career night has earned him much-deserved accolades. He has been named the national player of the week as well as Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week.
The 5-foot-11, 210-pound senior ran for a career-high 262 yards on 33 carries to lead the Sun Devils to a 30-23 win over Mississippi State Saturday at Mountain America Stadium. He also caught three passes for 35 yards in helping Kenny Dillingham’s team to a first-ever win over an SEC opponent.
Skattebo’s 33 carries are the FBS single-game high this season. His final run was his longest. He covered 39 yards to the Mississippi State 12 and slid to the turf, allowing the Sun Devils to run out the clock after the Bulldogs had pulled within a score with five minutes left.
Skattebo had 12 runs of at least 10 yards during the game — and that also serves as a season-total best in the nation.
It marked the second-highest rushing total in program history behind Eno Benjamin’s 312 yards against Oregon State in the fourth game of the 2018 season.
Skattebo has 311 yards on the season, third in the nation among FBS rushing leaders. He trails only Ashton Jeanty of Boise State (459) and Kyle Monangai of Rutgers (373).
Skattebo and the Sun Devils look to improve to 3-0 for the first time since 2019 when they play their first road game this season, an ESPN national game Thursday at Texas State (2-0).
