With Week 8 of the college football season officially in the books, the Big 12 Conference announced three players that would be taking home the eighth iteration of the Big 12 Football Weekly Awards for the 2024 season.
Baylor’s Sawyer Robertson took home the title of Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, Kansas‘ Cobee Bryant earned DPOW honors, and Baylor’s Bryson Washington took home Newcomer of the Week.
While Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears have had a tough start to the 2024 college football season, Week 8 was a different story. Blank quarterback Sawyer Robertson led his team to a win over Texas Tech, handing them a first loss in conference play. The Texas native tossed five touchdowns through the air paired with 274 yards in the 59-35 win.
Kansas cornerback Cobee Bryant had an unreal stat line in Week 8, recording three interceptions vs. Houston. Bryant tied the program record for single-game interceptions with three, snagging errant throws from Zeonn Chris and Donovan Smith. The performance helped the Jayhawks earn their first win in conference play in 2024.
Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, Bryson Washington, put on an impressive showing vs. Texas Tech. He posted ten carries for 116 yards and a pair of touchdowns while averaging 11.6 yards per carry. Washington has earned the most carries of any back for Baylor despite entering the season as a true freshman behind Richard Reese and Dawson Pendergrass.
