Rather than leave Matt Poitras idle during the Olympics break, the Boston Bruins sent the 21-year-old center back to Providence.
Poitras was summoned to Boston when Elias Lindholm went down against Nashville and his importance increased when Pavel Zacha was injured too.
The 21-year-old former second-round pick had a goal in three games with the varsity. He’ll return to the AHL where he has eight goals and 16 assists in 39 games for the Providence Bruins.
Whether Poitras returns to the Bruins when they host the Blue Jackets on Feb. 26 likely depends on the health of those injured centers.
