As the daughter of Vietnamese immigrants who established their own restaurant, Jenny Poon witnessed firsthand the struggles of navigating the ins and outs of growing a small business. When she became an entrepreneur herself, she drew from that experience to create a resource platform bringing community building and business support methodology to city governments.
HUUB, the company she founded, recently won the 2024 CivStart Government Innovation Challenge and Pitchfest — a contest looking for solutions that enhance communication with government, business owners and citizens, that streamline processes and foster collaboration.
In this episode of GovTech: In Case You Missed It, Jenny speaks to Dustin and Joe about the challenges exposed by the pandemic, her desire to help overstretched economic development teams, and the equity created in communities when access is improved and barriers are lowered, so that more underserved and underrepresented entrepreneurs create businesses and jobs.
