Burger Boy is cooking up its 11th location on the West Side.
San Antonio’s homegrown fast-food joint is planning a new 2,410-square-foot restaurant at 2304 S. Loop 1604, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. It’s expected to be completed at the end of June 2026 and cost an estimated $1.1 million.
Established in the 1950s, the burger chain is known for its burgers, shakes and crinkle-cut fries.
Burger Boy traces its roots to the Whopper Burger, opened by the Bates family in 1955 and later expanded to more than 20 locations. After nearly three decades, the business closed. Carl Bates decided to carry on the family legacy with the opening of Burger Boy’s first location on North St. Mary’s Street in 1985.
In 2017, the business was purchased by an investment group, led by industry veterans Rick Molina, brother-in-law Guy Ellison, uncle Tony Salinas and business partner Bryce Pohlmeier. The group has continued to expand the burger chain while maintaining its classic menu and old-school vibe.
