CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Fire crews responded to an early morning fire Sunday at the Indian River Shopping Center, where flames were reported at the rear of the complex.
According to the Chesapeake Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to 4323 Indian River Road at 4:05 a.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls about visible flames. Crews arrived on the scene just six minutes later, at 4:11 a.m., and reported active fire along the roofline of the building.
Firefighters from Chesapeake, along with automatic aid from Norfolk Fire-Rescue and the Virginia Beach Fire Department, quickly went to work, establishing water supplies and deploying hose lines both inside and outside the structure.
The fire was found at a main power feed and had extended to the roof. Crews worked to contain the spread of the fire until Dominion Energy arrived and disconnected power to the building.
The fire was brought under control by 4:41 a.m. No injuries were reported.
Officials said the affected unit appeared to be under renovation at the time of the incident. The cause of the fire has been ruled accidental.
