Filling the Depot downtown are the colors, music and great flavors of food at the CHISPA Festival celebrating Hispanic Heritage. This event brings the community together, CHISPA which stands for Cheyenne, Hispanic, improving, powerful, alliance.
Chair of CHISPA Jessica Fernandez-Medina says, “We want everyone to feel welcomed. It doesn’t matter what your race is, yes, it’s a Hispanic organization putting it together, but it’s open to the community. We want everyone to come and enjoy it.”
Lots of learning and culture for all to experience at the festival. Jessica Fernandez-Medina Chair of CHISPA says, “We educate our community about our Hispanic culture. Just have a good time and enjoy the food, the music, the dancers, the colors.”
The majority of vendors at CHISPA are local Hispanic owned businesses. From Folklórico dancing, horses, piñatas, jalapeño eating contests, a lively atmosphere, and companionship within the community is felt for all in attendance.
Days like this are founded on pride and uniting with one another. Jessica Fernandez-Medina says, “Makes me feel proud. Makes me feel that we live in a community that shows love to one another no matter the color of our skin.”
