It’s finally sweater weather in the Valley as temperatures cool in time for Halloween. The National Weather Service predicts average to below-average fall temperatures in Phoenix over the next two weeks.
Phoenix will see daytime temperatures in the 70s and 80s through the weekend, with overnight temperatures that could dip into the upper 40s. Temperatures will drop below normal today into tomorrow, but will gradually warm up by the end of the week.
The National Weather Service also issued a freeze warning for Pima County, expiring at 5:15 a.m. on Oct. 30.
“We had a cold front push through last night into this morning through the region, and that’s what really gave us much cooler air,” said Isaac Smith, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service Phoenix. “Yesterday, we saw highs in the 90s, but that cold front pushed through and we’re going to hold onto these cooler temperatures through basically the whole week.”
The weather service projects a high between 79 and 82 degrees on Halloween, but as Phoenicians head out to trick-or-treat, there could be a chill in the air with lows between 48 and 55 degrees.
Smith predicts dry conditions this week, but the Valley could see higher chances of rain starting Sunday.
The cooldown brings long-awaited relief to America’s hottest city after experiencing its hottest summer and fall (so far) on record.
This year, Phoenix had its latest day over 110 degrees and the first 110-degree-plus day in October. Sky Harbor International Airport recorded 21 days in a row, with record-high temperatures in the last month.
But Smith expects Phoenix will return to average to below-average temperatures — for now.
“It looks like we’re going to hold on to this cool weather for now,” Smith said. “We’ll see temperatures drop off again next week with another weather system that’s going to be pushing in.”
