The No. 1 Indiana Hoosiers are headed to the College Football National Championship game for the first time in program history after previously making two CFP appearances.
Indiana punched its ticket with a 56-22 win over the No. 5 Oregon Ducks on Friday in Atlanta at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, setting up a shot at the program’s first national title against No. 10 Miami.
Miami advanced with a 31-27 victory over No. 6 Ole Miss on Thursday night.
Looking ahead, the Hoosiers are listed as the to win it all at -310, while the Hurricanes sit at +250.
In the win, Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza threw for 177 yards and five touchdowns while completing 17-of-20 passes, connecting with Elijah Sarratt for two scores and Charlie Becker, Omar Cooper Jr. and E.J. Williams Jr. for one each.
Oregon quarterback Dante Moore battled, finishing with 285 yards and two touchdowns and a pick while completing 24-of-39 passes.
Indiana entered the CFP as the No. 1 seed after going 14-0 in the regular season, highlighted by a 30-20 win over Oregon at Autzen Stadium in October.
The Hoosiers took a 35-7 lead into halftime after a dominant defensive showing kept Oregon in check, forcing three turnovers — two fumbles and a pick-six on the opening drive.
Indiana kept its foot on the pedal the rest of the way, overwhelming Oregon in the second half to secure a 34-point victory.
The CFP National Championship game will be held Jan. 19 at Hard Rock Stadium.
