LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — From business owners to pedestrians, many residents say they’re increasingly concerned about safety near several of the valley’s busiest intersections — and a list from Metro Police shows why.
In September, Metro released a list of 12 dangerous intersections where officers plan to increase enforcement. With 140 fatal collisions on Las Vegas roadways so far this year, News 3 visited several of the hotspots at the top of the list.
“I do not feel safe walking because they don’t pay attention. I’ve almost been hit like three times,” resident Giselle Davis said.
At Flamingo Road and Rainbow Boulevard — the second most dangerous intersection — drivers regularly sped far above the posted 45-mph limit during our time on scene.
Speeding, jaywalking and running red lights are common factors behind many of the crashes. But at the intersection topping the list — Charleston Boulevard and Decatur Boulevard — residents say the biggest issue is the ongoing construction project that has clogged lanes and confused drivers.
“I mean if they’re going to be enforcing stuff then they need to be giving these people tickets more because there’s a sign right here that says no left turn, left turn, left turn, watch left turn. I don’t know, I don’t know,” said resident Jeremy Skoggins.
The traffic backups leave pedestrians feeling exposed.
“You really have to dodge traffic to kind of get through here,” Davis said. “You’re playing like a chicken in the street to get across the street. So yeah, it is really bad.”
Business owners in the area say the construction — part of the city’s ongoing storm drain upgrade — has made things even harder.

Eduardo Garcia, who owns a Schlotzsky’s near Charleston and Decatur, says businesses nearby have closed and his has been forced to reduce hours.
“This danger all the time,” Garcia said. “It’s really a danger across the street, but it’s worse now because of the construction job they’re doing right now.”
Skoggins added that unsafe driving habits only make the situation more chaotic.
“People run red lights here, they drive erratic, they don’t use blinkers and then you have people dancing doing whatever they want like that and I mean it’s awful,” he said.
City officials say the full storm drain project along Charleston Boulevard is expected to be completed in 2027. Work at the Charleston and Decatur intersection is projected to wrap up in fall 2026.
LVMPD says they are increasing patrols at these 12 intersections:
- Charleston Blvd & Decatur Blvd
- Flamingo Rd & Rainbow Blvd
- Charleston Blvd & Hualapai Way
- Blue Diamond Rd & Arville St
- Tropicana Ave & Decatur Blvd
- Flamingo Rd & Arville St
- Boulder Hwy between Sahara Ave & Karen Ave
- Flamingo Rd & Pecos Rd
- Flamingo Rd & Maryland Pkwy
- Las Vegas Blvd & Cheyenne Ave
- Washington Ave & Nellis Blvd
- Las Vegas Blvd & Cashman Center
News 3 will continue to follow updates on enforcement efforts and construction timelines as the city works to improve safety on local roadways.
