HOUSTON — Houston’s two downtown stadiums are in need of hundreds of millions of dollars.
Daikin Park needs nearly $836.5 million in maintenance over the next 20 years, while Toyota Center needs $635.81 million, according to a presentation during the Harris County Houston Sports Authority’s building committee meeting June 17. The figures come from Tennessee-based public facility consultant Venue Solutions Group’s facility condition assessments for the two venues. The studies were initially approved by the sports authority in October 2024.
Daikin Park and Toyota Center are both over 20 years old. Much of the architectural, mechanical and technological aspects of both venues are original to the buildings and are in need of replacement, according to documents obtained by the Houston Business Journal. While both stadiums require modernization, the report found that the facilities are generally in good condition and have been well-maintained throughout.
