It’s been a sluggish, defensive-minded second half since Philly’s score. Denver’s offense is driving, though, and they’ll have the ball at the Eagles’ 33-yard line to begin the fourth quarter.
Good news for Denver’s defense: JFM is back on the field.
Broncos defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers was down on the field and then gingerly left the field with what appeared to be a lower body injury. CBS reported that JFM is in the blue tent being evaluated for a knee injury.
Meanwhile, the Eagles ruled out two players:
Philly scored quickly in the second half. Three plays into the third quarter, Hurts threw a 47-yard touchdown pass to running back Saquon Barkley, who beat linebacker Alex Singleton on a double move.
Philadelphia will get the ball to begin the second half.
Trailing by a touchdown, Denver has the ball with 2:18 remaining until halftime with one timeout remaining. The drive ended in a punt.
Philly took a 7-3 lead over Denver midway through the second quarter when Jalen Hurts threw a two-yard touchdown pass to tight end Dallas Goedert. The Eagles’ 90-yard scoring drive was aided by a 52-yard pass to DeVonta Smith with Riley Moss in coverage, a big play that was later followed by Pat Surtain being penalized for pass interference against A.J. Brown at the two-yard line.
Following a 12-yard Bo Nix sack that knocked the Broncos out of field goal range, rookie punter Jeremy Crawshaw had a 37-yard punt that set Philly up at its own 10-yard line early in the second quarter.
Denver will have a first down at its own 49-yard line when the second quarter begins. The game’s tied 3-3 after the first quarter.
Philly drove down to Denver’s 13-yard line before settling for a 31-yard field goal to tie the game at 3-3 with 0:29 remaining in the first quarter. That marked the first time this season that the Eagles did not score a touchdown after reaching the red zone. The Broncos had the best red zone defense in the NFL going into the game (25%) while Philly had gone 11-of-11 on red zone trips leading to TDs going into Sunday’s game.
After the fumble was overturned, Denver kicked a 55-yard Wil Lutz field goal to take a 3-0 lead with 6:49 remaining in the first quarter.
Two plays after the penalty gave the Broncos a first down, Eagles cornerback Cooper DeJean strip-sacked quarterback Bo Nix after getting by running back RJ Harvey on his pass rush. Philly recovered that ball, but after review, officials ruled that Nix’s arm was going forward and it was deemed an incomplete pass instead of a fumble.
The Broncos lined up for a version of their “Tush Push” on 4th-and-2 at Philly’s 40-yard line, and the Eagles jumped early for a five-yard encroachment penalty that gave Denver a first down.
After Denver’s offense went three-and-out to begin the game, the Broncos’ defense forced a three-and-out for Philly’s offense. Denver will now get the ball back at its own 32-yard line following Marvin Mims’ 23-yard punt return.
Kickoff is right around the corner!
For the fifth time this season, running back Jaleel McLaughlin is a healthy scratch. Meanwhile, quarterback Sam Ehlinger will still dress as the team’s emergency third-string quarterback.
Up next on the Broncos’ schedule is a trip to Europe to take on the New York Jets as a “road” team in London on Oct. 12. That game in London will be nationally televised on NFL Network, which is available to stream on FuboTV.
