Day of the Dead Celebration
Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a holiday that comes from the country of Mexico. In this multiday celebration, we remember and pay respect to our family and friends who have passed away. This is not a somber holiday, but a joyous one when we reminisce on the funny memories and interesting stories of those who have passed.
In the week leading up to Day of the Dead, we will have an ofrenda, or shrine, on display in the library. We encourage you to bring pictures and mementos of your departed loved ones. Remember, pictures left at an ofrenda should only contain people who have already passed. On November 2nd, we will celebrate with marigold and papel picado crafts, and the opportunity to share and reminisce on our dearly departed.

Dios De Los Muertos Catrina Dolls
Dios de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is celebrated on November 1 and 2 in Mexican households, as a joyful time that helps people remember the deceased and celebrate their memory.
The celebration has many special symbols including the Catrina, also known as “La Calavera Catrina,” who stands as a central symbol representing the cycle of life and death. With her fancy dress and distinctive skull makeup, Catrina is a reminder that death is a normal part of life and should be celebrated.
So join us as we celebrate Dios de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) by creating our own Catrina dolls!
