The Buckley School, an all-boys K-8 + Academy Year school, located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, is currently seeking a dynamic Director of Technology to join the Buckley community.
The ideal candidate will possess the following competencies:
Leadership
- Supervise the technology team.
- Lead ongoing conversations and organizational commitment to a strategic vision for technology and strategic planning implications.
- Pursue, develop and share best practices in technology in education and be an engaged and dynamic member of local and national educational technology communities.
- Inspire the technology team and the broader Buckley community to model best practices in innovation, digital citizenship, technology integration, and responsible use of current and emerging technologies.
- Lead parent tech committee, host technology-related events for parents and continue developing strong partnerships with all community stakeholders.
- Partner with division directors and department chairs to collaboratively design intentional, strategic and thoughtful use of technology in the classroom and in all school operations.
- Serve as thought leader and continue partnerships in the field
- Lead responses to technology-related opportunities and responsibilities presented in the strategic planning process.
Educational Technology and IT
- Evaluate emerging technologies and guide senior academic leaders on strategic and operational decisions involving instructional technology hardware and software, curriculum and professional and operational implications.
- Teach lessons and classes in computer science and digital citizenship.
- Oversee relationship with Managed Services Partner and other vendors to ensure infrastructure efficiencies and security.
- Ensure the successful administration and delivery of IT services, including: network, hardware and software deployment, data administration, and security.
- Ensure that all members of the community receive sufficient training and support.
- Plan and oversee enterprise projects including new infrastructure needs.
- Ensure student, faculty and staff devices are procured, deployed and managed efficiently and appropriately.
- Develop and maintain departmental budgets, policies, and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Professional Qualifications & Personal Qualities
The Buckley School is looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
- Visionary leadership aligned with the needs of a dynamic and diverse faculty and staff.
- Experience as a hands-on instructional technology integrator, and as a coordinator or director of an educational organization’s instructional technology program.
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is a minimum requirement, though a graduate degree in instructional technology, information systems, or related field is highly desirable.
- Experience as a supervisor and organizational leader, including: direct personnel management, project management, staff development and training, and committee leadership.
- Experience proposing, piloting, and iterating through strategic projects in the areas of technology integration and instructional design.
- Experience teaching classes in an elementary or middle school educational setting.
- A passion for educational technology, instructional design, pedagogical innovation, and professional growth, and a capacity to instill that passion in others.
- Excellent relational and communication skills.
- A collaborative, cooperative, and patient mindset.
- Capability to lift up to 25 pounds and access hardware in hard-to-reach spaces.
