Disney and the Starlight Children’s Foundation are honoring Hispanic Heritage Month by providing new Encanto-themed hospital gowns and pants to children’s hospitals across the country.
The big picture: The non-profit that aids hospitalized children and their families tells Axios Latino that patients this month will receive special
gowns featuring “Encanto” characters Mirabel, Antonio, and Isabela.
Zoom in: Starlight’s hospital gowns and pants seek to bring happiness to children who are undergoing procedures and treatments in medical facilities, the foundation says.
- The hospital gowns are designed to provide better privacy and coverage for kids.
- They also include snaps on the sleeves, allowing easier access for hospital staff during medical procedures.
The foundation will also offer Disney-themed care packages and
Disney toys, books, and games.
What they’re saying: “We’re honored and grateful to have a longstanding relationship with Disney in helping us achieve our mission of delivering happiness to seriously ill kids and their families,” Adam Garone, CEO of Starlight Children’s Foundation, said in a statement.
- We hope these special gowns will deliver joy, as well as bring kids together to explore new cultures or connect with a little piece of home,” Lisa Haines, SVP of Corporate Social Responsibility at Disney, said.
Background: Set in rural Colombia, “Encanto” follows the story of the Madrigal family through the eyes of Mirabel, who doesn’t have a special magical gift like other family members.
- Mirabel and her grandmother must come to terms with family trauma and confront a curse that could ruin the family.
