The Miami Dolphins are moving second-year safety Jordan Colbert to inside linebacker, the team’s linebackers coach Joe Barry told reporters Thursday.
Colbert, 25, signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL draft and spent his entire rookie season on the team’s practice squad. After a strong training camp and preseason, the Dolphins initially listed Colbert on their 53-man roster after making cuts. But when the team added veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas, Colbert was waived and added back to the Miami practice squad.
Earlier this month, the Dolphins added Colbert back to the active roster after placing veteran cornerback Cornell Armstrong on injured reserve.
At his University of Rhode Island pro day, Colbert measured in at 6’2, 214 pounds and reportedly ran a 4.6 40-yard dash with a 39.5-inch vertical jump. The Dolphins now list Colbert at 218 pounds.
The lightest of the four Dolphins players currently listed at inside linebacker — Jordyn Brooks, Tyrel Dodson, Willie Gay Jr., and K.J. Britt — is Dodson, who is listed at 237 pounds.
Colbert has appeared in two career games and has two career tackles. All 28 of his snaps have come on special teams.
