Over the last couple of months, the Miami Dolphins moved on from their top two wide receivers, releasing Tyreek Hill and trading Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos, leaving the position group rather thin.
Right now, Miami’s room consists of newcomers Tutu Atwell, Jalen Tolbert and Terrace Marshall Jr., along with returning members Malik Washington, Tahj Washington, Theo Wease Jr. and A.J. Henning.
Speaking at the league meetings this week, new Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan acknowledged the lack of talent in the room.
“[Those already in the room] have something to prove and understand they have something to prove. They understand what the narrative is with [them, that] nobody is expecting much. They’re chasing the carrot,” Sullivan said (transcribed by the Miami Herald). “It’s my job to put more substance in that room. We have to surround Malik [Willis] with good football players. We’ve got to put playmakers around him.”
He also pointed to the upcoming NFL draft, where the Dolphins have seven picks in the top 100 selections.
“It’s a really good wide receiver draft,” Sullivan said. “[There are] some very good players up top; there’s depth and substance to it in the second, third, fourth rounds.”
New head coach Jeff Hafley echoed a similar sentiment with Kay Adams earlier this week.
“We have a lot of draft picks,” Hafley said. “We have seven of the first 100 picks… After the draft, and as we get the players here on April 7, you’re going to see we’ll get some good [wide receivers] for him to throw to.”
Miami has a few receivers who would be best suited as third options for Willis in 2026. The general manager and head coach hope they can find better targets later this month.
