The big coaching news coming out on Sunday all has ties to the Green Bay Packers. An assistant coach is officially leaving Green Bay for a big job on Jeff Hafley’s staff in Miami, another assistant could have a second chance at a promotion elsewhere and the sibling rivalry in the LaFleur family just hit another level.
Duggan departs
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Hafley and the Dolphins are hiring Packers linebackers coach Sean Duggan as the team’s new defensive coordinator. Duggan’s move to Miami was reported last week, but his official title on Hafley’s staff — defensive coordinator — is now official.
What this means: The Packers expected to lose Duggan, who spent the last two seasons in Green Bay coaching linebackers and has followed Hafley throughout his coaching career, and a replacement has already been reported. Matt LaFleur is expected to hire Sam Siefkes, who worked with Jonathan Gannon in Arizona. The Packers linebackers took a step back under Duggan in 2025.
Stenavich’s second chance?
According to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Las Vegas Raiders are preparing to hire Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak as the team’s next head coach.
What this means: A year ago, Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich interviewed in Seattle and was considered a front-runner to get the Seahawks offensive coordinator job before Mike Macdonald went with Kubiak. Will Stenavich get another chance in Seattle? He does not call plays in Green Bay, and Matt LaFleur has offered him opportunities to interview for play-calling positions. It’s possible Macdonald will want another chance to talk with Stenavich before deciding Kubiak’s replacement for 2026.
Another LaFleur head coach
According to Rapoport and Pelissero, the Arizona Cardinals will hire Mike LaFleur — the younger brother of Packers coach Matt LaFleur — as the team’s next head coach.
What this means: Move over Harbaughs, there’s another brother rivalry in the head coaching ranks. Matt LaFleur has been the Packers coach since 2019; Mike has been an offensive coordinator in New York and Los Angeles for the last five years. He’ll now take over the Cardinals, who fired Jonathan Gannon (now the Packers defensive coordinator) after three seasons. Mike LaFleur was the Rams offensive coordinator under Sean McVay for three seasons (2023-25) and previously spent four seasons (2017-20) under Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco, so he knows the NFC West well. Mike (38) is eight years younger than Matt (46). The Packers are not scheduled to face the Cardinals in 2026.
