CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College football fell to SMU, 45-13, on Saturday afternoon in Alumni Stadium.
Dylan Longeran finished 20-of-28 for 184 yards and one touchdown. Lewis Bond hauled in eight catches for 88 yards, setting a new career high as he has 72 catches for 727 yards this season. Reed Harris caught six passes for 86 yards, while Turbo Richard rushed for 48 yards with three catches for 20.
On the defensive side of the ball, Omar Thornton led the Eagles with six total tackles. Owen McGowan and KP Price were second as they recorded five tackles each. Josiah Griffin recorded his first career interception, while Edwin Kolenge recorded his first sack of the season.
The Eagles’ defense forced the Mustangs to punt on their first drive, but following a BC punt, SMU opened the scoring on their next drive when they drove the field in just over two minutes to make it 7-0.
SMU made it 10-0 when they knocked in a field goal from 20 yards out following a turnover.
The defenses then held firm, not allowing a score until the Mustangs scored their second touchdown of the afternoon with a quick four-play drive.
BC got its first points of the afternoon when Luca Lombardo knocked in a 31-yard field goal.
With 16 seconds left in the half, Griffin tipped a pass and collected it for the interception, leading to Lombardo’s second field goal of the game as time expired to make it 17-6 at the half.
SMU got the first score of the second half with a 61-yard receiving touchdown from Yamir Knight five minutes in.
The Mustangs tacked on two more touchdowns with one coming late in the third before getting another a minute into the fourth quarter.
Longeran found McDonald for a five yard touchdown reception to give BC their first touchdown of the game and make it 38-13.
SMU picked up its fourth touchdown of the second half with a 48 yard rushing touchdown.
Boston College is back in Alumni Stadium next Saturday against Georgia Tech for the Jay McGillis Memorial Senior Day Game. Opening kick is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on ACC Network.
