DUNKIRK, Md. — If you’re looking for a new store to add into your grocery rotation, look no further than El Punto Latino, an authentic Latin grocery store that opened just a few months ago in the heart of Dunkirk.
El Punto Latino, located at 10365 Southern Maryland Boulevard, is a small store that has a variety of snacks, produce, cooking and baking supplies, and Latin American treats. You can even get fresh tamales, fresh-baked bread, and homemade chicharrones. The store also has some nonfood staples, like cleaning products and paper supplies.
The BayNet got the opportunity to visit the store to check out what they have to offer. And of course, we couldn’t resist doing a little shopping. We loved how authentic everything was, and if you love cooking, it has everything you need to make some great Latin dishes. Here’s what you can expect when you drop in, and some of our favorite finds.
Snacks
When you enter the store, head to your right to see the huge collection of snacks and drinks. There’s plenty to explore and everything is so reasonably priced. You can come home with plenty of new snacks to try and maybe even discover a new favorite. There are salty snacks, sodas, juices, smoothies, and candies to try, as well as every flavor of salsa you can imagine.
Cooking
If you love to cook, you’re in the right place. The store is stocked with staples with lots of variety — rice, dried beans, and coconut, olive and avocado oils. One of the best parts of the store was the dried spices and herbs section, which was a major upgrade from your typical canned spices you’d find in a grocery store. The packets of spices are fresh and definitely will elevate your cooking.
If you’re part of the Latino community in Southern Maryland or looking for a way to add variety to your weekly menu, you should definitely stop by El Punto Latino to see what they have to offer. The store is open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays. The store doesn’t appear to have a website or social media presence, so the best way to reach them for updated information is by phone.
