The streets of Elyria are a little safer as summer kicks into high gear, thanks to a recent initiative by the local police department. Moving beyond traditional patrols, the Elyria Police Department has invested time in the city’s youth, equipping them with essential knowledge for safe driving.
With school out and the freeways filling up, young drivers are statistically at higher risk. Recognizing this, the Elyria Police Department conducted a Teen Driver Safety Class, teaching local teenagers everything from the consequences of distracted driving to proper vehicle maintenance. The department noted that these participants, eager to enjoy their first sips of summer freedom, took time from their weekend to engage with the sobering realities of the road. As posted on their social media, “These amazing young drivers gave up part of their Saturday to learn the essentials of being safe and responsible behind the wheel.”
The class wasn’t all cautionary tales and law lectures. In an expression of community and support, local businesses offered unexpected perks. Auto Details and Pink Peppercorn Catering, both local favorites, offered attendees a complimentary car wash and a hearty lunch as an incentive.
