Fairfield (Conn.) National relied upon another one of its late-inning offensive outbursts in a 7-3 victory over Las Vegas Wednesday at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.
Fairfield advances to the US Championship final Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on ABC against the winner of Thursday night’s elimination game between Las Vegas and Irmo, S.C., which rallied from a 6-3 deficit with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to post a 7-6 win over Sioux Falls, S.D.
Luca Pellegrini kept Fairfield close early on with a pair of RBI singles, the second of which gave the Metro Region champions its first lead of the game in the fifth inning. Tommy D’Amura launched a towering home run to spark the sixth-inning surge, and then was summoned to close the door in the bottom of the frame.
D’Amura secured the final two outs, forcing a pop-up before recording a game-ending strikeout.
SJ Taxiltaridis went 2 for 3 at the plate and overcame a tough start on the mound for Fairfield, giving up three runs on seven hits over 5⅓ innings with four strikeouts and two walks.
