SAN ANTONIO – Those young, and young-at-heart- got a chance to celebrate Dia Del Nino on Saturday.
Families from across San Antonio gathered at Bill Miller Plaza at the UTSA Downtown Campus to celebrate Dia Del Nino
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., children and parents could enjoy a number of educational activities, live performances, and family-friendly fun.
Organizers say it’s a celebration of the kids in your life and also your inner child.
Families also got the opportunity to participate in the children’s parade!
“Día del Niño has become one of the most important family celebrations of our city, as every activity is designed for cultural learning”, said Rebeca Barrera, Executive Director of SOMOS Cultura y Más. “While the crafts and games target children 2-13 years, every parent and grandparent will find that they too want to make a paper hat, play lotería, or embroider a design to take home.”
The project also aims to preserve and protect San Antonio’s rich Latino culture and traditions, passing them from one generation to the next.
“An important part of our mission is to promote and preserve our Latino culture. This event not only celebrates the youngest members of our community but also educates them on San Antonio’s rich Mexican culture,” said Pete Cortez, a third-generation family member of La Familia Cortez. “We are proud to be able to collaborate with these great partners to continue to bring cultural events like this to our neighborhood in Zona Cultural.”
