WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – Final Touch Tattoo is speaking out after concerns surfaced about the shop opening a location on Sheppard Air Force Base.
The San Antonio-based business, which already operates on Lackland Air Force Base as well said it was contacted by Sheppard’s contracting officer about bringing a tattoo shop to the installation.
According to Final Touch Tattoo, ownership said the contracting officer reached out to several local shops, but none provided the information needed to move forward with the contract.
Final Touch said that’s when they posted a local job listing, looking for artists to work on base.
The shop said it even discussed part-time opportunities with local artists who could keep their regular jobs, also known as moonlighting, at SAFB.
However, the company said it soon received more than 40 comments and direct messages from about four local artists and shops stating they would work together to ensure no local artists accepted the position.
In a statement, Final Touch called the situation “very disheartening,” adding that they hope those four voices or the tattoo business do not represent the broader tattoo community and that they are open to further conversations.
Final Touch Tattoo plans to open its Sheppard Air Force Base location in mid-September.
