After officially signing a one-year contract on Wednesday morning, new Denver Broncos running back J.K. Dobbins was out on the practice field for the team’s mandatory minicamp practice on Wednesday afternoon. After just signing earlier in the day, Dobbins worked on a side field after the team stretch.
Dobbins (5-10, 215 pounds) joined the team after spending last season with the Los Angeles Chargers. The 26-year-old running back rushed for 905 yards on 195 carries in 2024, adding 32 receptions for 153 receiving yards. He scored nine touchdowns in 13 games with the Chargers.
Dobbins originally entered the league as a second-round pick out of Ohio State with the Baltimore Ravens in 2020. He has struggled to stay healthy in the NFL, but Dobbins has been productive when on the field. His career average of 5.2 yards per carry is second-highest in the league since 2020 among players with at least 425 carries. Dobbins has also rushed for 10-plus yards on 14.7% of his career carries, which is the third-best percentage since 2020.
Here’s a first look at the running back in his new orange and blue uniform:
Dobbins figures to share the workload with rookie running back RJ Harvey, whom the Broncos picked in the second round of this year’s NFL draft out of UCF. Denver now has a crowded backfield with six running backs.
To make room for Dobbins, the Broncos waived a long snapper. The roster is now full.
