2025 UEFA men’s Nations League Finals – Hosts Germany take on Portugal, Spain and France play Olympic rematch
Germany are the only team in the final four not to have won the Nations League, and they will have to wait a bit longer for their first title as they lost to Portugal 2-1 on Wednesday (4 June).
Die Mannschaft were aided by the return of number one Marc-André ter Stegen to the squad from injury but the Barca keeper could not prevent Portugal’s 40-year-old superstar Cristiano Ronaldo from scoring the winner.
The Portuguese team can rely on the confidence brought by their three Champions League winners. Paris Saint-Germain midfield duo Vitinha and João Neves have developed an impressive partnership, not to mention talisman Gonçalo Ramos.
In the other semi-final, it is a repeat of the Paris 2024 gold medal match between Spain and France. Four Spanish Olympic champions (Pau Cubarsí, Fermín López, Álex Baena, and Samu Aghehowa) and four French silver medallists (Désiré Doué, Rayan Cherki, Loïc Badé, and Michael Olise) have been called up.
Spain have been the dominant force in European men’s football over the past 12 months, and the defending Nations League champions could solidify that with another triumph in Germany, where they beat Germany and France on the way to Euros glory.
Meanwhile, France are embarking on their final international cycle with Didier Deschamps, the World Cup-winning coach who will step down after the 2026 edition of the global tournament. This generation is more than keen to close the chapter with more trophies, starting here.
