BEATRICE, Neb. (KLKN) — The turf at Beatrice High School will now be known as Cam Jurgens Field.
The former Husker and defending Super Bowl champ was joined by friends, family and former teammates Friday for the unveiling of his name on the football field.
Jurgens grew up in Beatrice and said he never would have imagined an honor like this when he first stepped on the football field his freshman year.
“To think that I’ve done something worthy enough to be able to earn that, and to think that my name will be on that field forever, it’s pretty wild to think,” Jurgens said.
In just his second year in the NFL this past season, the homegrown Husker became the starting center for the Philadelphia Eagles — and balled out.
Jurgens was named an All-Pro and won the Super Bowl.
With his name now ingrained on Beatrice’s home turf, the rising NFL star reflected on laying the foundation for the next generation of football in Nebraska.
“You can get to any stage you want from any spot in the country,” he said. “It doesn’t matter where you grow up or what resources you have. You can make it to anywhere you want.”
