Jesús Ortíz Paz, lead singer of Fuerza Regida and founder of Street Mob Records, launched the 111XPANTIA scholarship for Cal State San Bernardino (CSUSB) students in April; applications are now officially open.
While attending the “Beyond the Booth” event at the university, Paz, also known as JOP, opened up about his life and officially announced the launch of the scholarship, which is named after the band’s latest album.
JOP is known not only for his success in regional Mexican music but also for his strong commitment to supporting the San Bernardino community, where approximately 70% of the population is Latino. The goal of the 111XPANTIA Scholarship is to support the next generation of changemakers within his community, which holds a personal significance for the singer.
Paz has also been very supportive of the greater Latino community. In June, during a wave of aggressive immigration raids at workplaces across Los Angeles, Fuerza Regida stepped up by donating to organizations such as the Immigrant Defenders Law Center, which helps cover legal fees for those affected. All the contributions to this organization came from exclusive limited-edition sales of hats and a merchandise collaboration with comedian and internet personality Druski.
For those interested in applying in the scholarship, four awards will be given in equal amounts to students who meet the following criteria:
1. Must be currently enrolled at CSUSB as an undergraduate or graduate student
2. Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
3. Complete two essay questions.
