DENVER (KKTV) – As the National Weather Service issued tornado warnings in northern Colorado on Sunday, more than a hundred flights were delayed at the Denver International Airport.
FlightAware reported at least 130 flights being delayed at the time time some passengers told 11 News they were seeing funnel clouds outside their window.
“Growing up here in Colorado, I’ve never really saw them at all, so it was pretty exhilarating,” said Dan Wonders.
Wonders said he was flying out to Omaha from Colorado Springs. During a layover in Denver, he said he looked out the window and noticed the clouds.
“I saw the debris kick up on the ground,” he said, describing what he said appeared to be an active tornado.
More 11 News viewers sent in videos and pictures of funnel clouds outside the airport. Wonders said he heard airport employees on the runway get called inside for a bit.
“It was exciting to see,” Wonders said. “Definitely not something you expect to see during your layover…. More over it’s not something you necessarily expect to see in Colorado.”
