HBO will be launching a new documentary chronicling the life and career of Major League Baseball’s all-time hit leader and Cincinnati native Pete Rose.One of the most recognizable Cincinnati sports figures of all time, Rose’s legendary career took a complicated turn after he was permanently banned from baseball amid allegations that he gambled on games while playing and managing for the Reds.The National Baseball Hall of Fame later ruled that players on the “permanently ineligible” list would be banned from induction as well, keeping Rose’s name outside of baseball’s most prestigious club.The documentary, which will be released on July 24 and 25 and feature four different episodes, is called “Charlie Hustle and the Matter of Pete Rose.”HBO said the original documentary will tell the story of baseball’s all-time hit leader whose “on-field achievements and off-field transgressions have made him one of the most polarizing figures in all of sports.”The documentary will feature several former teammates of Rose, including Mike Schmidt, Ken Griffey Sr., and Tommy Helms, as well as broadcasters Al Michaels, Marty Brennaman and Jon Miller.All four episodes of the documentary will be available to stream on Max, on Wednesday, July 24.For more information on the documentary and a breakdown of each episode, click here.
