SAN ANTONIO – The south side will soon be home to a massive new equipment plant and new jobs.
JCB, a British equipment manufacturer breaking ground on the project today.
The $500 million facility will manufacture construction equipment. The new facility is looking to hire 1500 people.
It’s off of Highway 16 and South Zarzamora Road, with a footprint of 400 acres, roughly the size of 13 football fields.
JCB’s CEO says he chose Texas for the plant because it is the largest market for construction equipment in North America, but why San Antonio?
“San Antonio really fitted it well for us, the people of San Antonio are great,” said CEO Richard Fox-Marrs. “We appreciate the education system. We appreciate the connectivity of San Antonio, proximity to ports, proximity to our supply chains, coupled with the people, made it a really clear choice for us in the end.”
He says JCB is working with local education systems to prepare potential hires. Hiring will start next year, and the factory will open fully by 2026.
