There’s been a noticeable jump up in temperatures to kick off the week.
Expect highs around 90 degrees throughout inland Massachusetts on Monday. In Boston, an onshore breeze will keeps us several degrees cooler. With dew points up around 70, the heat index will feel more like the low to mid-90s in the hottest spots, so plan to keep that water bottle close.
And air-quality watchers take note: some wildfire smoke is still drifting around out there, particularly in northern New England. It won’t be nearly as thick as what blew through over the weekend.
Tuesday is shaping up to be our hottest day of the week, with no sea breeze to help. Thermometers will climb into the mid to upper 90s in the afternoon. When factoring in humidity, it’ll feel right at or above 100 degrees.
Boston has already hit 90 over a dozen times this summer, and let’s not forget when the city topped 102 degrees on June 24 — quite a feat.
We also have a heat advisory in effect through Wednesday evening, so please heed the usual precautions:
- Hydrate constantly, even before you feel thirsty.
- Avoid strenuous activity during the midday sun.
- Dress light and stay in air-conditioned spaces when you can.
- Check on vulnerable neighbors, pets and family members.
We remain steamy Wednesday, with highs in the mid 90s. By Thursday afternoon, everyone finally gets a break: highs ease down into the 70s.
But the cool off comes with a trade-off: a slow-moving cold front will be inching in from the northwest. That front will gradually sink southward across the region, increasing the risk of downpours and thunder. Storms are likely Thursday and Friday.
With a new wave of low pressure rippling along the front, there may be some enhanced rainfall totals that would result in flash flooding. So stay tuned for more on that later this week.
