Hispanic students at UCF are finding cultural connection and belonging within Greek life, particularly in Delta Upsilon.
Mitchell Montero, senior integrated business major and Delta Upsilon member, shared how the fraternity transformed his college experience.
“There’s a lot of things that made me decide to join Delta Upsilon, but the main thing was the brotherhood that I felt I could be included in when I rushed,” Montero said. “At DU, it’s very inclusive. There’s a lot of Hispanics in my fraternity.”
Montero also emphasized that the chapter promotes diversity and fosters cultural connections among members.
“Our chapter values diversity, encouraging all members to express who they are and where they come from,” Juan Seisdedos, senior integrated business major, said. “Mitchell has brought our fraternity closer, especially for me as another Hispanic member. It’s just great to have someone who understands our background, and we’re all learning from each other.”
For Montero, Greek life offers meaningful opportunities to celebrate Hispanic culture.
“Sometimes when we hang out, we go eat Hispanic foods and we do things like play soccer together,” Montero said. “When we’re playing soccer, we’re all talking in Spanish and Portuguese, cracking jokes in different languages. There’s a lot of culture in my fraternity. I have Hispanic friends in almost every fraternity and sorority.”
