One city in Upstate New York recorded its lowest temperature reading in nearly 10 years on Sunday.
Watertown recorded a temperature of -36 degrees at the airport Sunday, the lowest on record there since Valentine’s Day 2016, when the mercury dropped to -37 degrees.
The reading came just weeks after the airport hit -34 degrees last month and is significantly below the normal low of 9 degrees for this time of year.
Syracuse also felt the deep freeze Sunday, with temperatures dropping to -9 degrees. The reading matched the city’s lowest temperature of the winter, which was also -9 degrees on Jan. 24.
Normal temperatures for Feb. 8 in Syracuse are a high of 32 degrees and a low of 16 degrees.
The weekend cold snap affected communities across Upstate New York. Several places matched or beat their lowest recorded temperatures for this winter, including Rome, Cooperstown, Binghamton and Buffalo.
Relief is on the way for Upstate NY residents. Temperatures are expected to gradually warm up Monday and Tuesday, with highs close to normal for most of the week.
