Latinos contribute billions to Illinois’ economy, but Latino and Hispanic-owned businesses are suffering because of increased federal immigration actions. According to the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the federal government’s Operation Midway Blitz has had an adverse effect on local businesses, turning many of Chicago’s once bustling Latino commercial districts into “ghost towns.”
