After beating No. 3 Oregon 30-20 in Autzen Stadium — ending the nation’s longest home winning streak — the unbeaten Indiana Hoosiers are No. 1 in the CBS Sports’ college football power rankings.
The Hoosiers are 6-0 overall, 3-0 in the Big Ten, and have two wins over national top-10 teams in No. 9 Illinois (63-10) and No. 3 Oregon (30-20).
The Hoosiers also have a road win (20-15) over and Iowa team that went on the road and beat Wisconsin 37-0 on Saturday.
Indiana is the only team in the country top 4 in scoring offense (44.8) and top 4 in scoring defense (11.3).
A year after reaching the College Football Playoff and setting a school record for wins in a season (11), the Hoosiers are 6-0 for the third time in program history (2025, 2024, 1967).
“We’ve never seen a program crawl out of the sport’s damp basement and burst into the penthouse this fast,” wrote Brandon Marcello of CBS Sports. “Curt Cignetti is a quirky magician, blending overlooked transfers with old hands from James Madison to build a machine of buy-in and belief.
“His eye for veterans who play with purpose has flipped Bloomington’s football identity. The buy-in from the administration and boosters in Bloomington has helped tremendously, too.
“Indiana has two top-10 wins and a road victory at Iowa. Still, there will continue to be skeptics. After all, we’re human. The past dictates how we think about the future. But a 17-2 record over two seasons should be enough proof that Cignetti’s Hoosiers demand consideration for No. 1.”
Indiana is 17-2 under coach Curt Cignetti, hired by IU athletic director Scott Dolson after the 2023 season.
“The Hoosiers picked up the biggest win by any team this season with a 30-20 decision at Oregon,” Marcello wrote. “No other win in the country matches it. Curt Cignetti is an incredible 17-2 at Indiana and doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon, especially against a favorable schedule that doesn’t include a ranked opponent for the remainder of the regular season.”
MONDAY MUSINGS: INDIANA’S WIN AT NO. 3 OREGON AND WHAT’S NEXT
Indiana is No. 3 in the AP Top-25 poll, it’s highest ranking in school history in that poll.
Indiana has been productive on both sides of the ball.
Behind an offensive line plowing holes for running backs and protecting quarterback Fernando Mendoza, getting plays Elijah Sarratt, Omar Cooper, Roman Hemby, Kaelon Black and more, the Hoosiers are No. 4 in the country in scoring at 44.8 points per game.
Indiana’s defense got six sacks at Oregon, which had allowed only one sack its first five games combined. The Hoosiers held the Ducks to their fewest yards (267) in the Dan Lanning era.
INDIANA’S PRO FOOTBALL FOCUS GRADES FROM SATURDAY’S WIN AT NO. 3 OREGON
Oregon was averaging 56 points per game at home, but IU allowed the Ducks only one offensive touchdown, and that came with 5:15 to play in the first quarter.
Aiden Fisher, Louis Moore, Isaiah Jones, Rolijah Hardy, Kelly Wyatt, Amare Ferrell and Tyrique Tucker are among a number of players who have impacted an IU defense that ranks No. 4 in the country in fewest points allowed (11.3).
