The Buckley School, an all boys Kindergarten – Academy Year school, located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, is seeking a Class IV – Academy Year information literacy and digital media specialist. This position is responsible for supervising the operation of the Evelyn Adams Library (grades 4- 8 +) as well as working in collaboration with Class IV and Upper School teachers on research and literacy-based projects with students. This position will include academic technology, digital citizenship, and literacy instruction.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop, plan and teach information literacy, academic technology, and digital citizenship curricula for Class IV – Academy Year.
- Design and lead research and media literacy projects in collaboration with classroom teachers.
- Design, create, and maintain a relevant, engaging collection of print and digital resources to support students’ reading, learning, creating, and storytelling.
- Create engaging programs such as research seminars, field trips, and clubs that foster a love of reading.
- Maintain both the physical and digital library spaces in a way that is welcoming and a positive reflection of the school, including the Evelyn Adams Library, the library catalog, the digital library collection through Sora and the Buckley School Libraries website.
- Work with the Director of Technology to ensure iPads, Chromebooks and other services in the library are maintained and used effectively.
Job Requirements
- Media Specialist teaching endorsement or a Masters of Library (and Information) Science with specialization in School Libraries preferred.
- Knowledge of and experience with education and library technology tools and resources preferred, including Google Education Suite (including sites), OverDrive Marketplace (Sora), FAMIS, Alexandria, and GoGuardian.
- A vision for creating and integrating information literacy and technology across subject-area curricula.
- Teaching experience, particularly of this age group, preferred.
